It's been a long time

Hi folks,

I know, its been a looooong time since this blog has been updated.

My bad.

The last two weeks have been frustrating. The hip was taking forever to heal - guess, am about 95 per cent now - G made fun of my gait, and went snowboarding twice without me. Wasn't able to go to the gym much and that made me sooo paranoid about my food intake.

*tragic*

But will never take the ability to stand and walk for granted again. Doing everything is tough - cooking, laundry, getting dressed etc etc - when you've erhm literally got only one leg to stand on.

Also, the American health care system is waaaay expensive. That trip to the A&E cost about 2G. They took 6 x-rays and I had a consultation. That's IT.
Yes, although it only cost us 45 bucks from our wallet and the rest was covered by G's insurance - but can you imagine if you don't have the means to pay for insurance? (Its not cheap and many Americans can't afford it) - it means die die also won't go to the doctor. Pun fully intended in that sentence.

But on the upside, we're seeing a bit more snow these days. Well, at least flurries. The temperatures are fluctuating like mad. Right now its a balmy -7 deg C and last night it was -18 deg C.

eh, will update in a bit. Am running late with chores and there's a yoga class at the gym.

-24 deg C

whaaaa. It's -24 deg C. New record for cold for us man.

Injury meter: 5

Okay, had my bad snowboarding accident - gene had to go to A&E once, so I guess it was my turn.
It wasn't that dramatic a fall but I think I twisted something or snapped something or did something crazy to my hip. No, they don't see any fractures on the x-ray, which is good news.

But had to be tobogganed down the hill by the Ski Patrol which would have been embarassing and/or fun if I actually remembered any of it. All I remember was this awful pain haze.

Couldn't put weight on the leg on Saturday (when I fell) and yesterday.

Today, am beginning to be able to put a wee bit of weight on it again, though stairs are a challenge. Baths are painful and I have to sit down to try any kind of dressing manoeuvres.

On the upside, the painkillers are lovely. On the downside, am tripping all over these crutches.

Going to see another doc for follow up tomorrow. Hopefully, it will all be good news and I will be up and right as rain in a few days.

It is *finally* snowing and I really really don't want to miss that.

Wish me luck.

Chuffed!

It was a great start to 2007.

After eating our way through the wee hours of 2006 at our friend's place with the rest of the Singaporean/Malaysian gang here... here's a photo at the party... (NB: there was Sarawak Laksa, Chye Tow Kuay, pork ball congee, chee kuay, fried springrolls, AND ice kachang... yes, we ate many helpings.)

We decided to burn off some of the calories with a session of snowboarding on the very first day of the new year... plus, we thought, might as well take advantage of the small snow fall Rochester managed to get.

And I'm glad to report that both of us are totally stoked and chuffed at our session yesterday - it went really well. We can link our turns now and can control at least how fast/slow we wanna go and the direction! Hahhaha. Pretty important if we want to go down slopes.

Plus! This is our sixth and longest run! Previously, we were either too pooped or too injured to continue after one hour, but this time we went for three hours.

So as you can tell, it's quite a nice jump in pace and relative skill. We can finally see light at the end of this learning curve tunnel!

These are our lovely boards. As promised, a pix of them - and isn't Gene's horribly garang? There's like this wraith on it. Very cool. Mine is, like I said, in the Singaporean National colours. Hahhaha.
Will buy an outfit to match the board when I finally manage to get down the slopes with some kind of style. Hahahahha.

This is Steeplechase. Nice ah? It's the nearest skiing slope to Rochester - approx 15 minutes away.

Me taking a Diet Coke break... phew... yes, the Ford Explorer, even though it has given us quite a bit of grief in the last few months, has come into its own: it can bash through snow and gravel AND hold those boards/boots/paraphernalia AND give us a perch to have a break too.

Me, and my beaaauuuttiifoool board: very happy after great run on the slopes. Will I say the same after I crash hard again, I wonder?

Oh, remember our little injury meter? It's hovering between a 0.5 to 1. We're both sore - in a good way - from the extended workout, and some injuries are yet to heal properly. Case in point: Check out my funny-shade-of-green/purple knees...

Happy New Year!

Happy New 2007!

Just came back from a party where I ate waaaaaaaaaaaaay too much. Sigh. Whatever happened to drinking too much?

But on a good note its *finally* snowing. Very mild but finally!
There's apparently a blizzard up north but here, its pretty tame... hummm must be getting used to the temps. Only -1 deg C at the mo.

With any luck, it simply means getting some boarding time tomorrow! YAAAAYYY!
