More on the townships

A traditional healer's work place. there weren't any clinics that we could see

a common water point in Langa township. toileting facilities are similarly bunched together
my only shot of some of the smallest huts in the township. They are made of wood or zinc. The former is a real fire hazard. Shortly before we arrived, there was a fire that killed 400 people there.

A Shebeen, which is a place that serves alcohol without having an alcohol license. Think they serve homemade brews too.
one of the hottest taverns in Langa township with the owner's S class merc in the foregroundwhich made me go "huh?"
but I'm sure it's well deserved, here's to having more of them in langa, cheers!

we were quite lucky to have caught a private tour of 3 townships in capetown - Langa, Gugulethu and Khayelitsha .
these 3 townships alone house more than 2 million people. To put things in perspective, Cape town has a population of about 3.5 million (including folks in the township)
the quality of housing in these townships range from what we understand as a small terrace to
one room shacks(extremely small!)
Despite the poverty, the people in these townships share great camaraderie and community spirit which is apparent when you are there in their midst.
which really goes to show that money is not all it takes to be happy. a learning point, really.
