Sobering news

We just heard that a good friend back in Rochester is down with the big C. Yup, he's going for chemotherapy, which I believe should have started a few hours ago (US time).
it's surreal, sombre and sobering because the dude whom we talked cock with, had over for dinners etc etc shares my birthday and he's oh, all of 28.
Jeez.

That took us a few evenings to just try to digest the news from Rochester. The good news is that he still has a sense of humor, and his updates on his online journal which is how the rest of us are finding out how things go are peppered with his sardonic dry wit. Which is great by my reckoning.

In the same spirit, am going to try to keep the tone of this post light - if it comes across a wee bit forced and fake. Bear with me ok? Am a lousy writer at work, at midnight. (waiting for the pages to clear)

Apart from all that - this few weeks have been immensely busy and well, there have been close shaves of one sort or another...here's a quick recap

a) back from Berlin - incredibly pleased with holiday, but not so hot at the prospect of writing about it. Promised Life! I'd deliver a travel piece by the end of the month. Well, it's the end of the month. 'Nuff said.

b) Gene's shaven and shorn - the new haircut suits him, even if he thinks he looks more than ever like Sonic the Hedgehog.

c)My own coiff has undergone some medusa-esque preening - thanks to George, our hairdresser, who's done it again. Why do I keep falling for that line "try something different lah!"
No, you ain't getting any photos either.

d) Started kickboxing classes - brilliant for the aerobics but my knees are probably shorn to bits... they creak every morning now and getting up is hard these days.

e)am a pimple patch. Call me the pimple patch kid.

f)We've been on a hawker food binge - blagh, the other day we ate $8 worth of Hokkien Mee. Now, in the hawker food context, $8 equates to a LLLOOOOT of mee. Let's just say that i think I may have OD-ed on Hokkien fried noodles.

g) The hermits that we are - despite lovely plans to catch all sorts of musical acts and gigs, and several invites to rather chi chi social dos - we fell into trance-like snoozes every night of the weekend. Pathetic I know.

f) Had a party at Himiko Court for a few of Gene's colleagues last Wednesday. Seven people finished 2 bottles of good single malt, and 7 bottles of wine, 1 half bottle of lemoncello and a beer. Yep, some people were preeeeettty darned sloshed. Okay, make that two people were sloshed. Luckily no one threw up but I had a LOT of glasses to wash that night (I was clean up gal). G fell asleep - he was sooo gone/tired - before our last guests, who are good pals so its okay, left.

g)Gene is convinced that i tried to poison him. Inveigled him to going to an organic cafe for lunch on Sunday, what I didn't tell him until he was actually eating was that everything, including the laksa he was sucking up, was vegan. :) He had an upset tummy after that and said it was probably cos he had too much vegetables.
I think he just has IBS and was stressed at the thought that he ate so healthy.

alright, am pooped and need to pee

too much info am sure to be putting online, but hey, I'm zonked. Its 1236 am
